Cape Town City have rewarded Hugo Marques with a new one-year contract extension following his impressive performances this season.
Marques joined City on a one-year deal at the start of the 2021-22 season from Portuguese side Farense – he was relatively unknown in South Africa.
However, the Angolan goalkeeper didn’t need too much time to introduce himself to the PSL as his performances caught the eye.
Marques was brought in as a replacement for Peter Leeuwenburgh who left City for Dutch outfit FC Groningen in 2021.

WHY HUGO MARQUES DESERVED THE CONTRACT EXTENSION

The 36-year-old could also be in with a chance to win the Goalkeeper of the Season award having kept the most clean sheets in the league this season.
Marques has kept a whopping 14 clean sheets in 27 matches for City thus far – the club’s best clean sheet record since its formation in 2016.
The lanky shot-stopper has conceded just 22 goals in the 27 league matches that he played for City thus far.
