Elderly couple murdered on Moorreesburg farm

An elderly couple was BRUTALLY attacked and murdered on their farm near Moorreesburg allegedly by a man recently released on PAROLE.

THE ELDERLY COUPLE WERE STABBED MULTIPLE TIMES

Frans (69) and Ingrid (65) Koch were attacked and overpowered in their home on Tuesday morning.

Ingrid was stabbed multiple times and died on the scene due to her injuries. Her husband, Frans, who suffered severe stab wounds, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg reportedly said a 34-year-old man was arrested for the HORRIFIC murders.

“The circumstances surrounding an incident on a farm on Hopefield Road, Moorreesburg on Tuesday at about 10:40, where a 65-year-old female and a 69-year-old were attacked are under investigation.”

INGRID WAS DECLARED DEAD ON THE SCENE

Twigg furthermore said when Moorreesburg police arrived at the crime scene, they found the elderly couple with stab wounds on their bodies.

“Medical personnel declared the woman dead on the scene, and the man was transported to a medical centre for treatment,” he said.

The attacker was arrested immediately after a coordinated reaction was launched to hunt down the attacker.

The man faces murder charges and is expected to appear in court soon.

FRANS DIED LATER IN THE HOSPITAL

According to residents in the town, the man was released on parole only two days before the brutal murders of the Koch couple. It was further alleged that the man was in police custody hours before the murders and was let go.

Police could however not confirm this on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the DA in the Western Cape condemned the farm attack.

The DA’s Western Cape spokesperson for agriculture and environmental affairs, Andricus van der Westhuizen, said the Koch couple was attacked while visiting their son at the farm.

“The DA urges SAPS to deal with this matter decisively so that the perpetrator is brought to book and to send a strong message that these senseless attacks will not be tolerated.”

Van der Westhuizen rural communities across the country are under siege due to heinous acts of violence.

IT IS BELIEVED THE ATTACKER WAS RELEASED ON PAROLE TWO DAYS BEFORE FARM ATTACK

“Yet, Police Minister Bheki Cele has not shown any sign of remorse for the plight of farmers and farmworkers as he has failed to implement the rural safety plan properly.

“Rural communities are at great risk of crime due to their isolation from police stations. This requires a greater need for special police resources to combat farm attacks and killings and the high incidents of other criminal activities that negatively affect farming.”

MPP Andricus van der Westhuizen added that he would engage with the Department of Community Safety on the steps it takes to avail resources and assist SAPS in strengthening rural safety.

“We will be asking the Minister of Agriculture questions to understand the extent of safety concerns and attacks on the farming community – both farmers and farmworkers – and how these are impacting our rural areas.”
