Nocawe Mafu, Deputy Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture has brought the news millions of South Africans have been waiting to hear for 2 long years!
Whether you’re a Bok supporter or you love the Proteas, Bafana Bafana or the PSL! Yes, you read that correctly! Fans will be allowed to return to stadiums in their numbers.
That means, the PSL will be allowing Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and we not just talking about 2000…
FANS TO BE ALLOWED BACK IN THEIR NUMBERS!
“I can tell you, the department is putting pressure on government to make sure that those spectators are really back on the stands, we hope that it will happen very soon,” stated Mafu on iDiskiTimes.
“But one thing for sure, sport is critical for South Africans. And also, when you talk economic reconstruction, sport is critical. Because those fans going to the stadium, they’re not going there for free. The pay and also the young people that are coming up, you know, the people that are doing small jobs and small businesses, they do a living there, because they sell little things,” she added.
SPORTS IS ESSENTIAL TO SA’S ECONOMY
This was officially said in a statement to all the government MEC’s as while as Sports Minister, Nathi Mthethwa.
“So it’s important. So when we look at the spectators, we must look at them, you know, you know, in a bigger form, not just spectators, but we’re talking about what the sport does for the economy in the country and helps its recovery as well,” Mafu said
Fans, including PSL supporters will be allowed to fill the stands soon.
The 7’s Rugby World Cup is already sold out (full capacity) and tickets are on sale vs the Springboks vs NZ (every seat will be available).
“Our people must just hang in there. We had hoped by now that probably we would have had at least 50% spectators on the stadiums. But remember, what has happened is that the National Disaster Act which is governing the COVID-19 controls, the President announced that they’re doing away with it as the government and therefore that has affected the timelines,” she stated.
“But we really hope that we will be able to come back to those timelines in due course, hang on there, we know, we know, we are with you. We also want to go back by the way to those stadiums. I wanted to go to the derby tomorrow as well (Laughing),” concluded Mafu on this matter,” Mafu concluded.
