How close are we to herd immunity?

South Africa has set the target of 70% of the population recieving the vaccine in order for herd immunity to be achieved and thus, the return to regular daily activities once more.

Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa’s State of Disaster will be over ‘soon’.

With little indication of just how soon this could be, we do have one measure that is a solid factor in determining this – our vaccination rate. So, just how much of Mzansi is vaccinated and how close are we to herd immunity?

SOUTH AFRICA’S VACCINATION – 42% OF MZANSI!

Currently, 42% of Mzansi has received their vaccination.

This equates to over 20 million vaccination dosages. Meaning, we are more than half way to herd immunity!

WHAT HERD IMMUNITY ENTAILS…

Once 70% of the SA public has been fully vaccinated, clubs, sports stadiums, restaurants, gyms and workplaces will return to a far more regular and fluent way of functioning.

However, masks are not going anywhere and neither are these regulations.

In a Sunday Times interview, Health Minister Joe Phaahla confirmed this.

There is hope that the SOD will finally end on Tuesday but one thing that is certain is that we are growing closer to herd immunity everday. So get vaccinated and let’s return to the life we want and deserve.
