Kaizer Chiefs main defensive target Terrence Mashego has been laid up with injury making a move to Naturena before the start of the season seem unlikely.
It will be touch and go for Mashego to return to action before the season gets underway in August.
Kaizer Chiefs target crocked
Mashego suffered a knee injury while on international duty, with the knock forcing him to withdraw from Bafana Bafana’s squad to face Morroco.
Cape Town City Chairman John Comitis has insisted that there is no way he will let Mashego go to a rival team in the PSL.
Mashego will report at Cape Town City’s training facilities in the coming week but will not train with teammates.
The player says that he is on the mend but needs to rest to recover from the injury.
“As I’m speaking to you, I have just left the doctor’s surgery,” Mashego told KickOff.
“I haven’t been at training since they’ve re-opened, and will only join the rest of my teammates in training tomorrow.
“I feel a lot better right now, but not meaning I can kick a football, so I will be taking it easy.
“I’m not sure how long the healing is going to take, but I was told the maximum is going to be six weeks, counting from the operation date.
“But I think it’s going to be less than that.”
Kaizer Chiefs have been active in the transfer window but have failed to capture any fullbacks in their current recruitment drive with central defender Zitha Kwinika the only defensive acquisition so far.
Amakhosi have sacked their head coach either before or just after the end of the season in each of the last three campaigns.
They last challenged for the title in the pandemic disrupted 2019/20 season.
Cape Town City, meanwhile look forward to Caf Champions League football for the first time next season.
