Not many people know this but Kaizer Chiefs played a friendly, a DStv Premiership warm-up match against one of their PSL rivals on Saturday, 9 July 2022.
Chiefs took on Marumo Gallants at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With bots new head coaches, Romain Folz and Arthur Zwane being allowed a chance to experiment with their new squads.
CHIEFS LOSE FIRST OFFICIAL GAME UNDER ZWANE
Zwane and Sheppards have coached Amakhosi before. However, this was Zwane’s first official match as Chiefs head coach – and it did not go according to plan!
Chiefs lost 2-0 to Gallants, according to iDiskiTimes. In what was a disappointing start to their preseason.
The two sides played three sets of 45-minute games. It was the second set that they lost, so if that was a full 90 minute game they would have also lost 2-0.
These are worrying signs for Zwane, since Amakhosi failed to score in any of the three sets. Chiefs were goalless for 135 minutes, that is one and a half matches or two hours and 15 minutes with no goals.
It is unclear at this point exactly who played. Therefore, we cannot assume which forwards started slow but what is likely is that most, if not all, players were given some minutes.
Meaning, Zwane got to experiment with his squad, including their new players. The concern will be that no combo of forwards could produce a goal during this time.
Hopefully, Chiefs can get their combinations right and improve in time for the 2022/23 DStv Premiership.
