Kaizer Chiefs could be set for a big transfer blow with regards to Yusuf Maart if the latest news are anything to go by.
Maart has been touted as a big target for Chiefs for almost a year now and it seemed like negotiations for his signature were advanced with Sekhukhune United.
Just last week it was said that Maart was ending closer to joining Chiefs as the club as well as Sekhukhune were starting to find common ground in the negotiations for the player. The latest information suggested that Amakhosi had proposed a players plus cash deal to Bina Noko, who seemed to be receptive to that.
Qatar team in for Maart
But now, there seems to be a late twist in the tale, as new interest from beyond the South African borders seems to have sent the cat amongst the pigeons. According to a source speaking to kick off, there is an unnamed club that has since entered the fray for Maart’s signature and it seems to have turned his head away from Chiefs.
“It’s also not only Chiefs and the Qatar club showing interest, but many teams. It appears likely that he will push for the move to Qatar, as it’s still only a few people who know the name of the club. When Sekhukhune faced Kaizer Chiefs recently, the Qatar club’s scouts were present to watch him, and they were left impressed. And the thing is he played very, very well in that game, with a plus being he has now been selected for the Bafana Bafana national team. So I’m sure he is going to Qatar, plus like the Qataris, he’s Muslim. And in that team, there is someone who coached him at an early age in his development back in Cape Town, who is there now working at that team. I’m 99% sure he is going to Qatar.” Detailed the source to the same publication.
Will choose lose out?
This would undoubtedly be a big blow for Chiefs should they lose out on Maart, who seemed to match the description of what interim co-coach Arthur Zwane said he wants to see in a holding midfielder at the club.
