Zuma had previously been frozen out by the technical team despite Chiefs lifting his suspension at the start of the year.

The 28-year-old midfielder was suspended five months ago following allegations of drunk and driving that led to his arrest in November 2021.

At the start of the year, Zuma was reported to be on his way out at Naturena but Chiefs changed their mind about letting go of the former Bloemfontein Celtic man.

And while he’s back in contention, Zuma still hasn’t been afforded game time by Baxter who said the creative player was brought back because he has conducted himself properly.

Baxter feels Zuma making the bench against TS Galaxy is a sign that he’s ready to feature for Chiefs whenever he’s called up to take part in competitive matches.

However, Baxter couldn’t commit as to whether or not Zuma would be given a run against SuperSport United on 16 April.

He said Zuma’s selection will depend on ‘a lot of things’ but then again made it clear that the onus is on the player to make sure that he looks after himself and, most importantly, behave properly.

STUART BAXTER TELLS DUMISANI ZUMA TO BEHAVE PROPERLY

“I don’t think it’s a case of ‘let’s wait six months then bring him back’. Dumi has conducted himself properly, giving some performances in training. That’s why we think if he’s called upon, he is now in a position where he can answer that call,” Baxter told reporters.

“I can’t say when exactly he will come back into the team – that will depend on a lot of things but it will also depend on Dumi keeping his levels high and making sure that he looks after himself and behaves properly,” concluded Baxter.
