Texas police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the death of former Springbok rugby player Pedrie Wannenburg. He was killed in a horrific accident in Houston, America, on Friday. His family was with him at the time of the accident.

In South Africa, a newborn baby with her umbilical cord still attached was found covered with a plastic bag on the R712.

Following the devasting floods in KZN, Ayanda Jileka, 19, one of the flood survivors, buried five members of the royal Zulu Jileka family. 

In some concerning news, reports have surfaced that there is a high risk that the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Municipality will not have water by the end of May 2022. 

South Africa recorded 3 222 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Sunday. This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 762 911.

Teenager arrested for Pedrie Wannenburg fatal car accident [Update]

Texas police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the death of former Springbok rugby player Pedrie Wannenburg.

Wannenburg was killed in a horrific accident in Houston, America, on Friday. His family was with him at the time of the accident.

It is believed the family was on their way to the movies when the accident happened. Wannenburg got caught up in a high-speed chase of the teenager who was evading the police.

Newborn baby SURVIVES after she was DUMPED on R712

The newborn baby with her umbilical cord still attached was found covered with a plastic bag on the R712.

According to the police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, the Warden Police is investigating a case of attempted murder.

“Police is investigating a case of attempted murder after a newborn baby girl was found by a community member on the R712 road on 18 April 2022, covered with a plastic bag.”

South Africa flood survivors bury loved ones

Betraying no sign of emotion, Ayanda Jileka emerges from the ruins of his family home in South Africa with some wood that he drops into two small holes at the gate.

The wood will be used to burn two sacrificial goats as part of funeral rites for victims of the flooding that has devastated the southeastern KwaZulu-Natal province and killed 435 people to date.

KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala said the disaster had affected more than 17 000 households, made over 6 000 people homeless and injured 55.

COVID-19 latest: SA reports 3 222 new confirmed cases, 5 deaths

South Africa recorded 3 222 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Sunday. 

This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 762 911. This increase of 3 222 new COVID-19 cases represents a 16.7% positivity rate.

Water crisis: SA’s major city likely headed for Day Zero soon

Reports have surfaced that there is a high risk that the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Municipality will not have water by the end of May 2022. 

The municipality is reportedly fast running out of water and there are no significant rains currently projected for the area.
