The death of a beloved police officer in the Northern Cape has recently left the community reeling with shock. The 49-year-old police captain Mario Brand was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head in Okiep last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Radio Personality Mark Pilgrim has pledged to take time to smile even when he is scared after he revealed that he has stage 4 lung cancer. This week, Pilgrim announced that cancer has “come knocking” on his door again.

In the Free State, a teacher at Wessel Maree Secondary School was suspended immediately after a video circulating on social media showed her violently pushing a learner. The Free State Department of Education said it has noted the video with grave concern and is investigating the matter.

 If you live in the south of Johannesburg, there’s a good chance you felt a tremor underfoot – after a ‘mini-quake’ rocked the region just after 19:00 SAST.

The seismic activity was logged by dozens of Twitter users, who rushed to their social media platforms to describe their experiences. A number of locals noted that this particular tremor ‘felt stronger’ than previous ones.

Beloved police officer found dead with gunshot wound to head

The death of a beloved police officer in the Northern Cape has recently left the community reeling with shock.

The 49-year-old police captain Mario Brand was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head in Okiep last weekend.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien, the body of Brand was found on Saturday, 26 February 2022 at approximately 19:45 in Okiep.

“The police in Okiep is Investigating an inquest case.”

‘I’ll take time to smile’: Mark Pilgrim on his battle with stage 4 lung cancer

Radio Personality, Mark Pilgrim has pledged to take time to smile even when he is scared after he revealed that he has stage 4 lung cancer. 

This week, Pilgrim announced that cancer has “come knocking” on his door again.

“I’m not Chuck Norris. Yes, I am scared. I am also strong. Both emotions run parallel with each other. I’m under the care of incredible doctors and surrounded by love,” Pilgrim said in a short statement on Monday.

Free State teacher suspended for ‘violently’ pushing a learner

A teacher at Wessel Maree Secondary School in Odendaalsrus, Free State has been suspended with immediate effect after a video circulating on social media showed her violently pushing a learner. 

The Free State Department of Education said it has noted the video with grave concern and is investigating the matter.

Free State Education spokesperson, Howard Ndaba said the department condemns in the strongest possible terms, acts of violence, bullying, corporal punishment and racism in our schools.

Tremor alert! Johannesburg shook by ‘mini-quake’ on Saturday evening

Did the earth move for you on Saturday evening? If you live in the south of Johannesburg, there’s a good chance you felt a tremor underfoot – after a ‘mini-quake’ rocked the region just after 19:00 SAST.

The seismic activity was logged by dozens of Twitter users, who rushed to their social media platforms to describe their experiences. A number of locals noted that this particular tremor ‘felt stronger’ than previous ones.

Alas, despite fears that this may have been a stronger earthquake than usual, data shared by the Council for Geoscience suggests that this tremor was nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, it wasn’t even the strongest tremor recorded this weekend in South Africa.

WATCH: Sky News crew attacked, journalist shot and wounded in Ukraine

The British television crew, Sky News, was ambushed outside Kyiv earlier this week, leaving one journalist wounded, their employer Sky News said.

Stuart Ramsay, chief correspondent at Sky News, was hit by a bullet in the lower back on Monday as they drove towards the Ukrainian capital.

Sky News showed footage of the attack late Friday.
