Tweeps on Randall’s ‘Idols SA’ exit

Twitter users are utterly upset over Randall Abrahams exit from Idols SA announced on 21 January.

Mzansi Magic announced that Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkay will not return for Idols SA season 18. The channel will not be renewing the contracts of the former judges. Randall, who is known for his sharp tongue and brutally honest opinions has been a judge on the show since 2002.

This follows Idols SA giving media personality Somizi Mhlongo “time off” in August 2021 but he may be back for season 18.

“The channel will not be renewing their contracts for the upcoming season of the popular singing show,” said M-Net director for local entertainment channels, Shirley Adonisi.

The show is said to be taking a fresh approach to the judging panel.

“We are taking a fresh approach to the judging panel to retain audiences and stay competitive in the Sunday night timeslot,” she continued.

“We salute these great icons of South African entertainment and thank them both for great innings on Idols. Randall and Unathi have demonstrated high levels of professionalism and made an impact on the South African entertainment scene that will continue to be felt for some time to come. We wish them well in their endeavours,” she added.

“Without Randal there’s no Idols SA. They might as well can the whole thing. It’s tickets,” tweeted @IncenseSA.

“We have set the bar quite high here and you are just below it😂🙆🏽‍♀️ – Randall Abrahams… Wow! Can’t imagine an Idols without Randall.  We were indeed thoroughly entertained,” tweeted @bonolonkosi.

“I don’t think anyone can replace Randall on Idols man. Just end the show once,” tweeted @EmperorG24.
